The Causes:
The causes of sexual assaults on university and college campuses are vast. |
There are many causes that can lead to sexual assaults. They range from personal, environmental and societal causes. We are meeting with various members of University and College student services, as well as the RCMP to come to a conclusion of why these assaults are so prevalent. Our main goal is to come up with a solution, or multiple, that can reduce the amount of sexual assaults on campuses of higher education.

Some of our Ideas:
Throughout our various interviews with experts from local universities and RCMP members we came across many similar causes of sexual assault. Some of the causes that have been reported come from drug and alcohol abuse. University frat and sorority parties involve alcohol and drug consumption and therefore lead to unfortunate events because of the fact that students are not in control of their bodies. That being said, many attacks may come from the offenders personal psychological disorders. Criminal behavior can become apparent in persons with a poor upbringing or childhood and can inherit traits from their parents. Sexual assault perpetrators may have been assaulted themselves and feel this act is acceptable when it is not at all. Peer pressure or being convinced to commit an act of assault can result in a personal scar of an individual. There are many causes that make sexual assaults occur in society and it is difficult to recover the exact cause of every occurrence.
